Reflection time

Things that caught my attention, and I was able to jot down, from this afternoon's Executive Reflection session, as shared by the speaker:

• "Think about the three things that you want people to say about you and think of ways how to be able to make them say that about you."
• "Know your boss. Know yourself."
• "As you go up the rung of the professional ladder, it will be less about doing a good job and more about exercising your political capital."

Things that I processed from what the speaker has imparted:

• Always be mindful of how you communicate, especially in print, because it's the only tangible form that could reflect back to you in the most positive or negative way.
• If you feel that you are not ready for the next opportunity available, you have a voice that you can use to air out your reasons why you think it is so.
• Nothing's cast in stone. It's okay to settle for an Individual Contributor role today and change your mind the next, like crossfading into performing a People Manager function. 
• Play to your strengths. Trying to cover for all your weakness is a total waste of time and resources and can result to mediocrity. It's better to find someone who can complement you on those areas that you are having difficulties delivering on.

Good thing I signed up for this. There's something worthwhile to do in the office afterall!
