during our 15-minute break from our nivel 4 class last saturday, sam y yo headed out for masagana to buy something to chow down like what we usually do every week. but on our way out, we were sidetracked because of some "happening" at the lobby of instituto. wanting to take part in the action, we immediately headed for the registration booth to take a peek and find out the cause of the buzz.after signing up, we learned that the mini-affair is for the launching of the funding program of the spanish embassy ( ithink!), with no less than the spanish ambassador as the guest of honor. believing that we can get something out of it, we decided to stay and mingle for awhile.
and the countdown to a major blowup has begun!
it started out as plain curiosity, but because of the sight and lure of free food, which was our driving factor primarily, curiosity be damned! but we were hungry. we started "feeling" our way to the line, scanning the crowd, making small, pa-intellectual conversations about the publications surrounding us, making pa-impress remarks about the music, in-short, trying to blend in. carrying our plates filled with 3 kinds of sandwiches (egg, ham, cheese), we settled for the available table near us. as we were stuffing food into our mouth, we noticed that "parang kaming dalawa lang yung estudyanteng nandoon sa area", but the thought was quickly brushed aside when a waiter came into our view and asked for our refreshment orders. as we were scanning the hand-outs, two of our classmates joined our table and started asking about the whole idea of us two - sam y yo - being in that affair. so we told them that we just signed up and started going around the vicinity and started lining up for the food and found a vacant table, that easy, because no one told us not to be there. convinced by our pitch, they happily fell in the food line and joined us a few heartbeats later.
being the ever-curious creatures that we are, sam y yo took a peek inside the instituto's slamming media room. right then, one of the event organizers went up to us and started inviting us to come in for the program. when we inquired if we can go out after a couple of minutes because we still have a class to get back to, she gave us a weird look - isang tinging nag-uuri - one that was trying to get across the message of us having no right to chomp their sandwiches and gulp down their juices when we have no business there to begin with! at habang nangyayari yon, patalilis na umalis ang dalawa naming magagaling na kaklase. magaling! magaling! magaling! what we did was we politely told the girl that we would not be attending since our supposed exit will probably disrupt the program, while quickly finishing our bocadillos. and then we hurried off to our classroom, all the while mustering all the grace that we have making it appear like nothing has happened.
talk about confidence to the next level.
hahaha.
